Victoria Has Another SRA 360 Sprintcar Champion – Jordyn Charge
Author : Ian Vale

Jordyn Charge claimed the Parr Motorsports SRA Victorian 360 Sprintcar Title last night at Western Speedway Hamilton with a faultless driver on a very fast racing surface from Brenten Farrer and Domain Ramsay.

Jordyn took out last season’s 2015-2016 Sprintcar Racing Association of Victoria rookie honours and showed it was only going to be a matter of a time before he would win his first feature race and with a near perfect drive in the Victoria 360 Title heats races Jordyn showed that he was up to the task for a charge to take the Title.

Twenty five laps of hard fast action at Hamilton’s Western Speedway and Jordyn claimed the gold, this event also double as the annual SRA 360 Gold Cup to give him both trophies on the night.

Brenten Farrer topped the qualifying points on the night ahead of Jordyn Charge and the defending SRA 360 Champion Michael Tancredi and two other past champions, Domain Ramsay and Phil Lock, Paul Solomon claimed sixth highest point to add him into the top six shootout for one last chance to take pole position.

The pace in the top six shootout was amazing with Tancredi setting the fast time with an 11.666 lap that would put him into P1 for the Parr Motorsports SRA 360 Title /Gold Cup. Charge just missed out on pole position with his 11.690 lap to put himself into the front row. Farrer and Lock filled row two while Ramsay and Solomon lined up on row three. Such was the pace in the shootout there was only 300th of a second separating the top five in the shootout indication that we were in for one fast title race.

The other drivers to line up for the main event were on row four, Brayden Parr and Chris Campbell, row five Anthony Foster and James Wren followed by Daniel Ellis, David Aldersley, Daniel Evans, Jason Gibbons and Jessica Moulden. Chris Solomon was a retirement from the main event after a rollover in his final heat end his night.

With a few spots of rain falling the field lined quickly to get the race under.

Tancredi won the start of the Title race that went no further than turn two when Wren rolled that would see turn two become a car park with two more drivers rolling onto their side. The end result of the car park was that five drivers would not take the restart, out were Foster, Aldersley, Ellis, Gibbins and Wren.

Back under way with a depleted field Tancredi won the race start once again with Charge and Farrer in pursuit, Campbell moved quickly into fourth place demoting both Lock and Ramsay down a place each by the completion of lap one. Solomon had seventh place ahead of Parr, Evans, and Moulden.

Ten laps in and the placing’s started to change, Tancredi was trying to lap Moulden but with Charge right on his tail he had to be careful, Charge showed his nose to Tancredi while looking for an inside pass only for Tancredi to go around the outside of Moulden down the main straight to give him a little breathing space over Charge.

A little further back and Campbell passed Farrer who wash up high in turn three while Ramsay was picking up the pace and had made his way past Lock to be in fifth place. Solomon was holding Parr and Evans at bay with Moulden in tenth place one lap down.

Farrer and Ramsay were fighting for fourth place as the laps started to wind down but up front Charge was right on Tancredi’s tail and looking to make a pass when a small mistake by Tancredi on lap eighteen saw the flying Jordyn Charge literally blasted past him into the lead. The speed of Charge throughout the race was impressive where he would set the fastest lap of the race on lap twenty four with a 12.013 pass.

A few laps to run and Charge was gone but Tancredi was now having to battle the advances of Campbell who had made his way pass Farrer when on lap twenty three Tancredi seemed to have a small problem that would see Campbell hit the back of Tancredi, Tancredi rolled to bring on the red lights with two to go.

A little more drama was to follow for Campbell while the steward deliberated on the incident, Campbell had an exhaust fire that would burn his left rear tire down to put him out of the race along with the defending SRA 360 Champion Tancredi.

It was now a green white chequered run to the finish, and a last chance for any more moves in the race but Jordyn Charge was not going to be denied his first feature win and took out his maiden Feature and became the new Sprintcar Racing Association of Victoria 360 Sprintcar Champion that would see his family, sponsors and friends celebrate well into the night.

Brenten Farrer came home in second place ahead of the 2015 360 Champion Domain Ramsay while another past 360 Champion Phil Lock took out fourth place. Rounding out the finishers were Paul Solomon, Brayden Parr, Daniel Evans and Jessica Moulden.

Heat wins on the night went to Paul Solomon, Brenten Farrer, Domain Ramsay and Jordyn Charge.
