The Eureka Garages & Sheds Sprintcar Series returns to Premier Speedway Warrnambool this weekend after a few weeks break for the rescheduled round two of the Series plus it is special night of racing that is more than just the Eureka Series, this event doubles as the Max Race in honour of one of the legend of the sport of speedway racing, Max Dumesny.
With yet another big field of nominations for this weekend’s event there is over twenty two thousand dollars of prize money on offer that will pay $5000 to the winner and a cracker of field of drivers will want a big slice of the pie. It’s a who’s who of Sprintcar racing in the field. Lead by Max Dumesny and two of his sons Matthew & Marcus who want to give him a run for his money. Four Eureka Garages & Sheds Sprintcar Series champions, John Vogels, Darren Mollenoyux, Shaun Dobson and current Series champion Brett Milburn along with the 2016-2017 Eureka Series point’s leader Glen Sutherland are included as well.
Now while all the top twenty drivers in the Eureka Garages & Sheds Series points are all nomination the stiff competition for the Eureka Series round two / Max Race will come from some of the countries travelling drivers, two times Australian and World Series Champion James McFadden along with another two time Australian Champion David Murcott who also sits third in the Eureka points standing, Ian Madsen returns to Premier Speedway after a successful season of racing in America.
So far this season the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series has had a different winner at the four rounds completed, David Murcott, Peter Doukas, Glen Sutherland and last round winner who also claimed the Victoria Open Sprintcar Title, South Australia’s Aidan Hall all are nominated once again.
There is once again a great depth of talent and some of the new up and coming drivers from the Warrnambool and local districts that have a real shot to be right in the mix on the night, Corey McCullagh, Peter Doukas, Jye Okeeffe, Tim Van Ginneken, John Vogels, Jacob Smith and Tim Rankin. Any of these drivers are more than capable of standing on the podium on Saturday night.
Last season’s SRA rookie of the year Jordyn Charge has committed to run the Eureka Garages Sheds Series and has been running very consistently to be sitting in eleventh place in the points standing. With the recent few weeks break Jordyn put a 360 engine in his car to contest the SRA 360 Sprintcar Title last week and he will return to the Eureka Series this weekend as the new Victorian 360 Sprintcar Champion. The team will contest this event with the 410 power plant back in the V60 western Nissan Sprintcar.
The format for this event is once again the popular seeded heat group time trial qualifying. In short the drivers only time trial against the drivers in their heat race.
South Australia has a strong representation this weekend with Daniel Pestka, the fast lady racer Lisa Walker, Brendan Quin, Terry Kelly and the Mount Gambier duo of Ashley Scott and Glen Sutherland. Queensland driver Lachlan McHugh returns to Premier Speedway once again, Lachlan will be joined by fellow Queenslander Richard Morgan. All in all every state and the Act will have representatives in the field once again.
A couple of late driver nominations that are on their games so far this season at Parramatta speedway is Sam Walsh and Jamie Veal, these two drivers have racked a few feature wins each so far this season and should be real contender this weekend.
The rescheduled round two of the Eureka Garages & Sheds that is doubling as the Max Race will be a taste of what is to come over the next six or seven weeks down south where the best driver in the nation and visiting overseas drivers will descend for some of the biggest races in the country. This weekend’s Sprintcar event is sure to a sensational night of sprintcar action.
