McCullagh Wins While Hickman Takes Eureka Series Crown
Author : Ian Vale

Corey McCullagh continued his great form last night at Premier Speedway taking another Eureka Garages & Sheds A Main event win for the second time in a week while Rusty Hickman sealed the deal to become the 2017-2018 Eureka Garages & Sheds Sprintcar Series Champion.

The nights proceedings got under way with the group time trials that would see the first drama of the night when in the first group Tim hutchins who went into the event in second place in the Eureka Series point standings and had a slight chance to challenge Rusty Hickman for the Eureka Garages & Sheds Series Championship went up in smoke with an engine problem after setting his first time trial lap that would end his night and his title aspirations.

Thanks to Series sponsor Camden Signage & Building Service the drivers that set fast time in each time trial group received $200 cash for their efforts. John Vogels, Corey McCullagh, Jessie Attard, Robbie Farr and Rusty Hickman were all recipients of the Camden Cash.

With the ten heat races over Corey McCullagh topped the point’s sheet giving him pole position for the Eureka Garages & Sheds A Main event. The other direct qualifiers after the heats in starting order would be Jessie Attard, Peter Doukas, Robbie Farr, Luke Dillion, Darren Mollenoyux, Rusty Hickman, Jack Lee, John Vogels, Tim Rankin, Glen Sutherland and Charles Hunter.

Now before the Eureka A Main event the C Main and B Main events had to run, with fifty three sprintcars in the field qualify for the these events was important to many of the Series contenders and one of those drivers that would have to start in the C Main event would be Brett Milburn.

Now with Tim Hutchins who was sitting in second place of the Eureka Garages & Sheds point’s standing having his night over after time trials Brett Milburn was in the box seat to move from his third place in the Series points to take second from Tim Hutchins. All Brett had to do was make it to the B Main and any points gained in the B Main would be enough to take second in the Series.

Brett stated the C Main out of position four and a top four finish was all he needed but at the start of the race he dropped one placing that he could not get back to miss the transfer by a mere 0.145 of a second that would see Brett stay in third place of the Eureka Series.

The C Main was taken out by Grant Stansfield from Mike Van Bremen, Luke Walker and Domain Ramsay who all transferred to the last chance B Main before the Series Grand final A Main race.

The B Main event had a few big name drivers that include two Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic winners in it, Jamie Veal and Steven Lines along with some other name drivers. When the fifteen lap journey was over Jye Okeeffe took the race win from Brock Hallet, Jamie Veal took third place, Ryan Davis, Steven Lines and Bobby Daly would go to the Main event.

With the heat races and C and B Main events conducted the good news was that Rusty Hickman had locked up the 2017-2018 Eureka Garages & Sheds Series Championship so he could go into final race of the series without any pressure on him.

Eureka Garages & Sheds Main event time and as expected Corey McCullagh got the jump over Jesse Attard at the start while Robbie Farr quickly move into third place demoting Peter Doukas back to fourth. Darren Mollenoyux also moved pass Luke Dillion to go forward at the end of the first lap only for Luke Dillion to take fifth place back the next time around.

Corey McCullagh was in fine form once again and in full control of the race while Jessie Attard was doing a great job in second place leaving Robbie Farr a couple of cars lengths back. Peter Doukas lost a few places to both Luke Dillion and Darren Mollenoyux in the early part of the race to be in sixth place at one third distance.

Corey McCullagh was now moving into lapped traffic putting two cars between himself and Jessie Attard, Luke Dillion had also caught and passed Robbie far for third place.

John Vogels and Rusty Hickman were in an entertaining race for seventh place only for Rusty to get a little sideways off turn four that would see both Jamie Veal and Brock Hallet move past him.

Jamie Veal who started from position fifteen was the mover just after the half way mark into position eight and looking good. Brock Hallett was another driver moving thru the pack.

Ten to go and all cars were still running but Corey McCullagh now had three lapped cars between himself and Luke Dillion, Jessie Attard and Robbie Farr were still at it for third place while Darren Mollenoyux was running in fifth but he now had Jamie Veal on his tail. Five to go and Jamie Veal made the pass on Darren Mollenoyux just as Jessie Attard had slight loose that would see Robbie Farr take over third that would be short lived as Jamie Veal was fast up high on track took third place two laps latter.

Thirty laps raced nonstop with all drivers finishing Corey McCullagh was not going to be denied another great victory taking out the Eureka Garages Sheds Series grand final, to beat home Luke Dillion and Jaime Veal who passed the most cars in the race to take third place. Robbie Farr finished in forth place, John Vogels was also impressive during the race to move thru the field to finish in fifth place ahead of Darren Mollenoyux.

Rounding out the finishers in order was Brock Hallett, Rusty Hickman, Peter Doukas, Jessie Attard, Jack Lee, Steven Lines, Jye Okeeffe, Tim Rankin, Glen Sutherland, Charles Hunter, Bobby Daly and Ryan Davis.

Domenic Sabatino from Eureka was on hand to pass the trophies over to Corey McCullagh for taking another well deserved feature race win and also to Luke Dillion and Jamie Veal before congratulating Rusty Hickman on winning the 2017-2018 Eureka Garages & Sheds Series Championship, it was night of celebrations for Corey and Rusty and their Teams.
