The Sprintcar Racing Association of Victoria racing season gets underway this weekend at Heartland Raceway Moama for the opening round of the 2023-2024 SRA Open Sprintcar Series that is slated down to be contested over twelve rounds this season. Thirty two drivers representing four States have entered for the opening Series round one event.

Daniel Pestka and Brett Milburn are two of the past Eureka Garages & Sheds Series Champions and have entered for the event, both drivers have good knowledge of the big wide open Heartland venue, while both Pestka and Milburn on paper will be hard to beat. Chris Solomon took out a Series round win last season at Heartland Raceway and showed you don’t need a big powerful engine, you just need a good setup to get the best out of your car, it will not be a surprise to see Chris up the front of the field once again come feature time this Saturday.

The challengers will be coming thick and fast when you look at the callable of some of the other drivers, last season Series runner up Terry Rankin who looked to have the Eureka Series in the bag going into the final round came up a little short in the final race and will be out to redeem himself, Terry will be a major player once again for the entire Series.

Rusty Hickman is back in the country after a stint in the USA, Rusty also has good knowledge of the Heartland venue and should be one to watch after running on the big USA tracks.

South Australia will also be represented by the very fast Chad Ely who is no stranger to the podium. Glen Sutherland joins the Series for this weekend, Glen was in good form last weekend at Murray Bridge Speedway setting second quickest time in time trial and was looking very strong in the main event until a mechanical issue sideline the S20 Sprintcar, Glen will be looking to keep the good form he showed last weekend going at Heartland.

One driver that should probably be an honouree Victoria is Tasmania’s Tim Hutchins, Tim and his trusty let’s say Team manager / Car cleaner Donna are always ready to race, Tim has tasted victory in the Eureka Series and another victory in the Series is not out of the question in the very near future.

Victoria will have good representation with Bobby Daly who just completed his early season warm up in Darwin, some of the other Victorian drivers entered are Dane Court who stepped into a sprintcar in the second part of last season, Dane is a star in the Super Rods and he has already impressed may people in the Sprintcar, Dane will most likely drive both classes this season. Michael Tancredi has been the Victoria 360 Sprintcar Champion on a couple of occasions and he is looking to show that form that won him those titles with the more powerful 410ci engine. Another past 360 Sprintcar Champion in the field is Brenten Farrer with his 410 power plant in the V34 machine. Regular Series runners, Mitchell Smith, Kevin Reeves and David Aldersley have entered for the opening round of the Series.

Eleven drivers from New South Wales have thrown their hat into the ring for round one the SRA Open Sprintcar Series. Jesse Attard does his fair share of traveling and will have gained good experience to adapt to the Heartland venue. Jackson Delamont is another driver that has supported the Series over the years, Jackson has the ability to be one of the main contenders on any given night.

Luke Thomas, Zac Pacchiarotta and Daniel Sayer are strong competitors and should be on the pace, one other New South driver having his first run at Heartland Raceway is Michael Saller, while Michael mostly raced in NSW he has ventured into Queensland and adapted well to the tracks up there so Heartland should not be too much of a challenge to the team.

Deniliquin’s Eddie Lumbar is also enterend for what you might say is his home track.

Saturday night the 21st of October the Heartland Raceway springs into action for round One of the SRA Open Sprintcar Series that will be supported by the Junior’s and Super Sedans. Heartland Raceway is located on the Cobb Highway 6 K’s North of Moama in NSW. On track action will commence at approximately 4.30 to 5pm for the Super Sedans & Junior’s with Sprintcars shortly afterwards.
